I told him I was a complete amateur and knew almost nothing about watches. “Congratulations,” he said. “That is the best. This way you don’t have many preconceived ideas.” ArtyA Watches was his operation, he had maybe a dozen people working for him, and they did not only original designs but also movements for other companies. We didn’t have a lot of time, so we just got into looking at his designs.
Great post! I really like how you explained the flexibility of the Journal 3 theme, especially with its typography and layout options. It’s inspiring to see how design elements can make a blog both functional and visually appealing. I’ve been experimenting with similar ideas on my own projects, and this gave me some fresh insights. Thanks for sharing!

It's one of those books I was so excited to receive I didn't even try to expense it – I went straight to the Hodinkee Shop and spent my own money on it (the employee discount helped, I'll admit).Throughout The Dial are more than 600 crisp images of techniques, processes, and dials. It's way more than a coffee table book, though the hardcover volume looks nice there, too.

So how does the watch stand up? I’m a longtime lover of the Rolex Explorer and the proud owner of a vintage (all-steel) Explorer that I wear all the time, and I can truly say that the two-tone Explorer ref. 124273 delivers on its promise of being something familiar and something surprising all at the same time.
Just listen to this – the total export value of all wristwatches delivered by Swiss watchmakers in the first six months of 2022 actually set a record for exports in the first six months of one year, with CHF 11.3 billion. Exclusivity – it really does work.
We hope you enjoy this episode of HODINKEE Radio. Let us know down in the comments if you've got more questions for Brynn – I have a funny feeling this isn't the last time she'll be on the show. Thank you for listening!
This was Shirley's only watch for many years, and she wore it every day to everything. Even though she owns more watches now, and is more excited by watch movements than she used to be – this watch has a quartz movement, with a silvered opaline dial, steel bracelet, two rows of diamonds, and is about 18mm – she still wears it all the time. "Every time I wear it, I'm reminded of my grandmother, and her relationship with my mom, and the amazing relationship I have with my mom."
The dial on this piece is blue opaline with an almost fume effect, where the outer portion is a dark shade of blue which transitions to a powdery center. This is punctuated further by sky-blue-colored Arabic numerals on the outer track. Then there's the blue cross-hair motif at the center, putting a stamp on this all-blue-everything look. A testament to classic watch design, the Classic Origin Blue features a small seconds subdial with a snailed seconds hand.
Boasting a true heritage in genuine tool watch, dress watch, and flat-out watch production for over 135 years, Breitling is one of the more fascinating watch brands to study today. Here, we dive into a solid selection of what you can grab on the pre-owned market at some frankly stunning price points. Yeah, okay, we're talking about thousands of dollars in watches, but everything is relative after all.
It might be a little tricky to convince anybody to spend $950 on a Braun watch, but hey these are limited editions and come with automatic movements and a #menswear seal of approval by the creator of #menswear himself: Paul Smith!
All of which is to say that, despite being the latest entrant into the green watch fray, this particular watch feels more intentional – more thoughtful. There's no shortage of history and heritage in the Heuer Carrera line, and the Green Special Edition is able to blend it with modern watchmaking and finishing.
